About

Spring Semester 2018:

The syllabus describes the purpose of this class: "The intent of this course is to introduce students to concepts of how artistic learning occurs in children, adolescents, and adults—including special populations. Additionally, students will investigate how these concepts shaped art education practice in the past and how it continues to influence current pedagogical practice. This class is meant to provide a foundation for later course work in art education and K-12 art teaching."

Through assignments, discussions and service learning, I explored the development of art-making processes and how to incorporate this into my teaching. In my service learning, I gained practice in how to create a student-centered environment in an art classroom. With my service learning, I had to think of my students by making certain accommodations to assist people with disabilities. This was challenging because we had to create lesson plans that involved every student. Through this challenging process, I learned a lot that will help me to improve my teaching. After every class, we created a blog post and reflected on what went well, what didn't work and what we could've done differently.
